JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION: Financial and Cost Accountant DEPARTMENT: Accounts / Finance
LINE MANAGER / SUPERVISOR: Financial Manager OVERVIEW: To maintain the integrity of the Financial Accounting Function in accordance with sound business and accounting practices, company policy and legislative requirements. Accountable for the on-going analysis of process constraints, target costing projects, margin analysis, and tracing costs back to underlying activities. The cost accountant must also construct and monitor those cost-effective data accumulation systems needed to provide an appropriate level of costing information to management. Internal Auditing on all systems and processes on an on-going basis in conjunction with the Financial Manager.
OCCUPATIONAL LEVEL: Skilled OCCUPATIONAL CATEGORY: Clerical

KEY REQUIREMENTS:

Qualifications

  • Matric or equivalent NQF4
  • BCom Degree

Experience

  • At least 5 years’ accounting experience
  • Good problem solving skills
  • Keen eye for detail

Skills

  • Good computer literacy in Microsoft applications

  • General knowledge of accounting
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Report writing and compilation

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

MAIN ACTIVITIES

Financial administration

  • Develop and maintain financial accounting processes and procedures
  • Audit, Implement and Maintain sound internal controls
  • Identify financial accounting risks and develop and implement strategies to mitigate risk

Financial reporting

  • Extract information and data for the analysis of accounts, consolidate information and prepare master databases or reporting purposes
  • Planning, Studying, and collecting data to determine costs of business activity
  • Analysing data collected and recording results
  • Analysing actual job costs and preparing periodic reports for comparison
  • Recording cost information for use in controlling expenditures
  • Analysing audits of costs and preparing reports
  • Providing management with reports specifying and comparing factors affecting prices and profitability of services.
  • Maintaining Cost Accounting System
  • Assisting in Month end close of the General Ledger
  • Preparing Month End Cashflow / Income Statement
  • Preparing Quarterly Income / Cashflow Statement
  • Preparing Quarterly Liquidity Report
  • Preparing Quarterly Asset Report
  • Preparing Stats SA Reports monthly, quarterly and annually
  • Preparing annual Audit File for Auditors
  • Ad-hoc duties over and above the scope of this job description
